I'm yet to go on a roadtrip where I am in control of the music and I can't wait for it to happen.

Last weekend I was with the hobbits in California and we were almost on the Ellen Degeneres show. Like -that- close it hurts. I'll be going to New Zealand with them for a week next month and filming some crazy adventures which you can learn about here.

Mainly I just have to come to the conclusion that I will never have a normal life and that it will always be crazy.
At least that's what I'm hoping for.

How the hell did you know that, I thought to myself.

There I was.

I felt naked.

See-through.

Come on, cut it out, don’t do this to me, I thought. Why do you have to tell everyone? The rest of the concert I stood there motionless. My eyes transfixed. Staring. Who the hell are you? How come you know these things about me?

“I can’t teach you to learn to love yourself, but here’s a sad song I wrote for no one else.”

He stared back at me. After every track he looked at me and smiled. Like some kind of singing guardian angel in nerdy glasses. When the others applauded, I just stood there.

Staring.

After the gig I asked someone if I could go backstage. Someone said yes. To this day I don’t know why. The room was dark. He was sitting on an old battered couch, a street light outside lighting up half his face.

“I thought you’d come.”

“What happened back there?”

“I don’t know.”

“You were…singing to me.”

“Ha, ha, well, I didn’t write it for you, but when I saw you standing there, I knew I kind of had. Tonight it’s your song.”

We sat there for a long, long time talking about life. His in Brooklyn. Mine in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is years ago now and my life is different in so many ways, but I often think of that night with Eef Barzelay.

Last year I think I went to California 4 separate times (possibly 5?). Going again this weekend. It's just where I want to be all the time.

I got to watch them in the Paris Theatre, NYC and the Broadway Theatre, SLC.

The Big Apple greeted me with open arms for the holidays. No white Christmas, no celebrity or sartorialist spotting (yes, I secretly hoped for these things), but it was shared with a few friends and a last minute visit from Dad in Australia. The best, the best, the best.

Maybe I'll get round to posting some more pictures but here are some instagrams.

Hope everyone had as magical a Christmas as mine.

On a side note, my favourite thing to do was walk through central park. I love that place. I love it.

When my dear Elizabeth and I managed to be in LA on the same weekend (the same country no less), we did nothing but sit in her hotel and watch Pulp Fiction at 2 in the morning. When we thought about doing some sight seeing we sat by the pool instead, ate breakfast, read some, talked some, ate lunch, wrote some, slept some and saw a movie at the arclight. Actually we split and saw two different films but maybe that shows how much we love each other anyway. 

And these moments were the best ones. 

Sitting in The Standard, ordering room service because we're big girls now that do things in foreign countries because we do what we like.

A woman of my word. I said I needed the road, so I left town for a little while. Just me, two dandy friends and the road. All the way to Wyoming (such a long long distance) where we basked in the beautiful glory of American wildlife, mountains and a cool town you may have heard of called Jackson Hole.

Things worthy of note from the trip:

Landed ourselves some free fireworks at a stop over in Pyro City

Slept in the car at an unknown mountainous destination

Got ourselves a free (and maybe illegal) continental breakfast at a fancy hotel lodge

Found some bears in Moose Junction

Found some deer and moose in Yellowstone

Picked up a French hitchhiker

Saw them big geysers in YS

And after all this I only missed 2 days of work. success.

If I were, I might talk about how I went to California again and spent the night with the most amazing fellow human beings living in Orange County and how we had never met but newly wedded hippy couples that live in a street full of Mexicans, are awesome regardless. And walking the Vegas strip with two attractive males can make a lady feel quite cool and very conservatively dressed.

Mountains and magical woodland have a way of putting me in my place. Tonight's good weather was needed so we could take a windy trip into the mountains to breath some fresh air. While everyone looks out at all the lights twinkling below, I can only manage to take in the biggest mountains I've ever seen in my life that are my next door neighbors. I am the luckiest lady. A short trip to California for the weekend.
We drove up all thursday night then just walked right into the park on Friday morning at 9am. Free entry to Disneyland and California Adventure and fast passes to everything. Friends who work at DL are the right kind of friends to have.

These are the lovely folk working at disneyland and though I might have issues with disney films, no one could have issues with these kind people. seriously, the nicest.
The nuns don't work at DL though.

I feel like I'm going crazy. Yes I'm pretty sure of it.

Filmmaking today meant a 13.5 hour shoot
in the most epic of beautiful mountains
shepherding sheep,
then getting blizzar-ed out twice by snow,
almost calling off the shoot,
packing everything up to only unpack it all,
and not once being able to feel my toes the whole freakin day.

I sound negative. I shouldnt. 'Cause amongst all the craziness was the most blessed crew I've ever worked with. Bless every one of their souls for not complaining like me. I think I just need a bit of a break from film shoots that go into the wee hours of the morning, keep me freezing to my very bones and that make me question why I do this.

Why do I do this? I love it. In the end, I do. I do I do I do I do.
I just need to remember that next week on our 11pm - 5am shoot in the canyon.

So I finished finals last week at 4pm Wednesday and jetted off to Australia that very night. It's Wednesday a week later and I'm already back in the States but being home for even a week, is enough to fill my cravings for Australia.

A friend of mine paid for most of my flight to jetset me over to take her wedding pictures. (More can be found here) But don't let me get cocky or I'll start thinking I'm some wanted photographer that gets paid to travel overseas by other people. Did that happen?

Life is just way too kind to me.

Had I not just bought my ticket two days before I left, it might have been hard to keep it a secret, but it was pretty great surprising the parents.

It's been a life long dream of mine to go backstage of a Bon Jovi concert. I just didnt' know it until now. Cause babes thats what I did last night and throughout the day -a backstage Bon Jovi internship thing. Got some really great footage to make into a documentary eventually so that's rad. Touched guitars worth half a million dollars and stood on the stage that Jon Bon Jovi rocked out on hardcore. He was phenomenal. I'm okay with being in love with 40 year olds, I'm definitely okay with it.

Also, I got interviewed for Fox News Live which in hindsight was the least cool thing of the day cause I know I sounded like a goofy loser-head.

Tess pretty much summed up my weekend in this post which includes us being jerks in the 4 hour production meeting for the RAD film I'm working on at the moment.

The weekend is not over yet, but I have already been to two film premieres/screenings and filmed a commercial for the BYU Humanities department. Now, being the only roommate in town and having the house to myself, I am amidst fairy lights and candles and listening to good music.

I probably have way too many crazy things planned for my life to even count. Let's cross our fingers (for the sake of my sanity) that I actually do them. It's just, sometimes I feel like I can do anything. everything. It puts crazy things in my head.

Unless it's an absolute s to the hit type of day where the world just likes to kick me in the face. That was today.

Although, I did get a call from my brother which was awesome.

Last night I learned amazing brilliant wonderful things about 35mm FILM cameras. Holllaaa! From a professional cinematographer too. I feel like no real film student can call themselves such until they know things about real manual film that takes time and is beautiful and artful and is not used and abused like digital.

Life is a lot of things.

Overall, it's very, very good.

This happened last week overnight and into the morning. When I walked home at 4pm the same day, it had already melted. Snow is pretty magical guys.

Watched the oscars last night and was mighty impressed with Florence Welch's performance of this song. Simply magical, it should have won the oscar in my opinion. Dido does a good job in the original track and of course my new favourite song was made by an Indian. A.R Rahman also did the music for Slumdog Millionaire.
